Development Golf

The Maritzburg Golf Club has recently embarked on a drive to ensure community upliftment and transformation in the game of golf in Pietermaritzburg.

“We have partnered with a local golfer, Tim Chisale who displayed a keen interest in uplifting children from surrounding less fortunate communities and introducing them to the wonderful game of golf.
“It’s not just about hitting a golf ball but the feeling of participating in this historical sport that has seen growing popularity especially post Covid-19, and the public in general wanting to get out of the lockdown phases and enjoy the outdoors while exercising,” said Goodayle.

The Maritzburg Golf Club is supporting the sport development programme from its own funds and receives no special grants for sports development. “This is a long term project and Maritzburg Golf Club is proud to be associated with
the programme.” Maritzburg Golf Club vice captain Richard Goodayle Club members are personally sponsoring equipment and golf kit for the young golfers and the club provides meals and refreshments for them, along with the use of the practice range, the course and pro golfers who assist with training.

“This is a long term project and Maritzburg Golf Club is proud to be associated with
the programme. “Who knows a future professional golfer could be in this first group,” said Goodayle.
